on the horizon

I have been making art in some way for as long as I can remember. Interpreting with color, filling space with design, and allowing myself to become lost in the manipulation of materials is my passion. Although I have spent many years painting and drawing my true rewards as an artist are process and materials, so generally I choose a medium with a strong tactile nature. Over the last twenty years, my medium has been been primarily glass. Glass plays with color and light while daring one to continually push its parameters whether that be hot, warm, or cold.

I have found myself once again intrigued with the investigation of materials such as the intricate nature of beads, the wandering threads in fiber, and the imitative characteristics of polymer. An array of materials engages me as a continual dance in a candy store. I am fascinated and challenged with this endless color range, the interplay of hard and soft, rough against smooth, and the ongoing cycle of symbolism in design. Currently I am incorporating these elements into a series of portraits being developed for an exhibit to be presented in October 2003. My focus is to gain a closer look at who people really are beneath their surface and then translate that impression through materials and design. This exploration is my journey permitting others to reveal their identity to speak without words through my art.
